UPUA to decide on budgets and funding
The University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) will bring new Bill 15-12, “Funding for Capital Day Transportation,” and old Bill 14-12, “The 2018 Elections Commission Budget” to the floor at its weekly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m.
Meetings are held in 233B HUB-Robeson Center and are open to the public.
The UPUA cancelled last week’s meeting on Wednesday, Feb 7 due to inclement weather and cold temperatures. Therefore, they will be bringing Bill 14-12, which was scheduled on last week’s agenda, to the floor this week.
Bill 14-12, “The 2018 Elections Commission Budget,” will approve the 2018 Elections Commission’s proposed budget of $2,909.66 to fund the 13th Assembly elections. This is a decrease in funding compared to the budget of $3,068.96 for funding the 12th Assembly elections in early 2017.
This budget will pay for “a series of informational and promotional events in order to provide for and encourage free and fair student government elections.” This includes banners, food, t-shirts and marketing materials.
Bill 15-12, “Funding for Capital Day Transportation,” will approve the funding of two Fullington buses for student transportation from the HUB to Harrisburg on March 13, 2018.
The UPUA has funded Fullington buses in the past to allow students “to directly engage with legislators in Harrisburg and advocate for higher education funding.” Without these buses, students will not be able to easily travel to and from the Capitol to ensure physical representation at Capitol Day. Transportation is free for all students attending the event.
The UPUA will also vote on Resolution 24-12, “Support for Implementation of Sustainable Lighting.” This will determine whether the UPUA will continue “advocating for Penn State’s dedication to stewarding our planet’s resources and sustainable development.”
At this meeting they will also hear special presentations by the Penn State Office 365 Project team, Tom Shakley on conserving Mount Nittany, as well as watch the Life of a Penn Stater debut video.
UPUA will bring these pieces of legislation to the floor Wednesday:
- Bill 15-12, "Funding for Capital Day Transportation"
- Bill 14-12, "The 2018 Elections Commission Budget"
- Resolution 24-12, "Support for Implementation of Sustainable Lighting"
